OVERVIEW

Nestled in the heart of downtown Yreka’s West Miner Street Historic District, the Yreka Carnegie Library (National Register #92000270) has served as an important feature of the community for over 100 years. Over time, the structural and mechanical components of the building have become worn and in need of repair. The goal of this project is to revitalize this important historical asset to serve as a cornerstone of economic and community prosperity.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists of rehabilitation of the historic Carnegie Library Building at 412 W Miner Street in Yreka, California, in accordance with the plans and specifications prepared by ORW Architecture. Prepared documents include, but are not limited to, sitework to provide new concrete footings for an ADA ramp, exterior patio / planters, and balcony; demolition to include environmental remediation and removal of load-bearing walls on the second floor to create an open office environment; exterior waterproofing and wall infill to existing exterior below grade openings under new ramp; new exterior steel balcony, guardrails, and steel ramp rails; exterior finish repair; repair and re-finishing of existing and historic wood finishes; new partitions, exterior and interior frames and doors, new exterior windows, new toilets, new kitchen, new flooring, and new wall finishes; structural modifications and repairs; and new mechanical, electrical, lighting, and plumbing services. Future phases for CMAR to consider during the proposal process could include exterior site improvements, possible reroof of building and either ground or roof mounted solar components.

PROPOSAL PROCESS

The rehabilitation of the historic Carnegie Library Building is being administered by Siskiyou County Economic Development Council (“SCEDC”) and entails hiring a Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR) for a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) through a two-step hiring process.
