Yreka

Yreka is the county seat and is the largest full service community in Siskiyou County.  Once the home of the Yreka Bakery and the chosen capital of the State of Jefferson, the city is rich in history. Gold was discovered in Yreka in 1851 by Abraham Thompson in what is now Discovery Park.  Yreka is located twenty-two miles south of the California/Oregon border on Interstate 5, nestled in the northern most corner of the majestic Shasta Valley.

The population base provides support for professional services, medical facilities, all governmental offices and a full range of retail businesses which make Yreka the trade center for the county.  Yreka is a quiet city located in an area rich in history and generous in natural resources. Historic Miner Street, Greenhorn Park, and the Siskiyou County Museum are just a few of the attractions.  Click here to learn more about what is happening in Yreka.
